Carnaval Brasil 2010
Held at the Ukrainian Hall in Toronto, the event, which focused on the Brazilian State of Pernambuco, featured performances by DJ Simba Maracatu Baque de Bamba, Banda Simpatia, Samba Connection, Axé Capoeira Toronto and Batucada Carioca for hundreds of guests and participants at a Brazilian Carnival party with music such as frevo, maracatu, samba and axé. Organized by Angela Mesquita and Fernanda Cortez.

We visited a dinner organized for residents of a building by the beach and asked them about some of their promises and wishes for this new year while showcasing the strong symbolism of elements present in virtually all Brazilian New Year's Eve cememonies and parties. We talked about colours of clothes, food like pomegranate, grapes and lentils, the tradition of the sea and jumping over 7 waves, as well as offering flowers to Yemanja.
